Embed Quick Sight visuals using Cognito user authentication

Machine Learning Blog

This article demonstrates how to embed individual Amazon QuickSight visuals into React applications using Cognito user authentication with automatic user provisioning and role-based access control.

  • Deploy a serverless four-layer architecture using CloudFormation with React frontend, Cognito authentication, API Gateway/Lambda backend, and QuickSight analytics
  • Lambda function automatically provisions new Cognito users as READER role in QuickSight on first access without manual intervention
  • Generate time-scoped embed URLs for specific visuals using GenerateEmbedUrlForRegisteredUser API with granular dashboard/sheet/visual-level access control
  • Render embedded visuals in React using amazon-quicksight-embedding-sdk with custom filtering capabilities from application UI
  • Configure CloudFront domain allowlist in QuickSight to enable cross-origin embedding and grant dashboard-level Viewer permissions to users

The solution provides a complete end-to-end pipeline for embedding analytics with per-user authentication, automatic provisioning, and fine-grained access governance without manual user management overhead.
