Query claims in natural language with Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases

Machine Learning Blog

This article demonstrates how to build a claims assistant using Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases with agentic retrieval to answer natural-language questions about insurance claims with citations from source documents.

  • Ingest claim documents from Amazon S3 with metadata sidecars for filtering by claim ID, type, status, and amount
  • Use AgenticRetrieveStream API to handle multi-part questions, conversation history, and metadata filters
  • Retrieve evidence across scattered adjuster reports, estimates, and payment records with automatic chunking and embeddings
  • Add contextual grounding guardrails to block responses unsupported by retrieved documents
  • Render citations mapping answer text to source documents for compliance and auditability
  • Scope retrieval with metadata filters to enforce access control by region or customer ID

The solution enables policyholders, agents, and adjusters to query claims in natural language while maintaining regulatory compliance through source citations and grounding checks.
