Amazon Kinesis Data Analytics for Apache Flink has introduced a preview feature allowing custom maintenance windows for infrastructure updates.
- Users can now choose preferred maintenance window start times via CLI or API
- Infrastructure maintenance can cause brief application downtime (10s of seconds)
- Application state is automatically recovered from latest checkpoint or snapshot
- To minimize downtime, regular snapshots and checkpoints are recommended
- Feature helps reduce complexity of managing Apache Flink applications
The update provides more control over infrastructure maintenance for streaming data processing applications, with built-in mechanisms to minimize service interruption.
