Generating input preview thumbnails using AWS Elemental MediaLive
Blog
This article explains how AWS Elemental MediaLive generates live input preview thumbnails for broadcast monitoring and quality assurance.
- MediaLive creates live thumbnails of current active inputs for real-time visibility
- Thumbnails available via AWS console and secure API for third-party integration
- Generated directly from incoming source before any video processing occurs
- Single-pipeline channels produce one thumbnail; standard channels produce one per pipeline
- Thumbnails encrypted at rest with Amazon S3 managed keys
- API requests don't count towards account TPS limits
- Returns base64-encoded JPEG with metadata via JSON response
MediaLive's thumbnail feature enables broadcast operators to verify source integrity and video quality upstream of the service.
