How eCloudvalley Enables Monitoring and Observability in Amazon EKS with AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry

Blog

This article describes how eCloudvalley, an AWS Premier Partner, implemented AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry (ADOT) to enable monitoring and observability for a healthcare customer's Amazon EKS environment.

  • Customer faced manual deployments, traffic scaling challenges, and poor troubleshooting capabilities
  • Solution uses AWS CDK for infrastructure-as-code, EKS with autoscaling, and CloudWatch integration
  • AWS Distro for OpenTelemetry collects logs, metrics, and traces through single collector binary
  • FluentBit deployed alongside ADOT for log collection to CloudWatch
  • OpenTelemetry SDK enables applications to send data via OTLP protocol (gRPC or HTTP)
  • DaemonSet with Helm chart deploys agents across all EKS nodes

The implementation demonstrates how ADOT simplifies multi-source observability collection, reducing complexity and improving mean time to problem resolution for containerized applications.
