This article announces the launch of a new AWS Local Zone in Phoenix, Arizona with expanded capabilities compared to previous Local Zones.
- New Phoenix Local Zone now available with single-digit millisecond latency
- Includes newer instance types: C6i, M6i, R6i, and Cg6n
- Supports additional EBS storage classes: gp3, io1, st1, and sc1
- Includes NAT Gateway service alongside standard EC2, EBS, and networking services
- Offers On-Demand, Savings Plans, and Spot pricing models
- Customers like ASU and DISH Wireless use Local Zones for real-time applications and 5G networks
- AWS has 34 Local Zones globally with 19 more planned outside the US
The Phoenix Local Zone represents AWS's continued expansion of edge computing infrastructure, offering improved performance for latency-sensitive workloads with more service options than earlier Local Zones.
