This article announces the general availability of Local Write Forwarding for Amazon Aurora MySQL-Compatible Edition 3, a feature that simplifies scaling read workloads while maintaining read-after-write consistency.

  • Transactions with reads and writes can now execute on Aurora read replicas
  • Writes are automatically forwarded to the single writer instance for execution
  • Applications can utilize up to 15 Aurora Replicas for read scaling
  • Eliminates need for complex application logic separating reads from writes
  • Available on Aurora MySQL versions 3.04 and higher
  • Can be enabled via AWS Console, CLI, or RDS API
  • Available in all AWS regions where Aurora MySQL is supported
