Blog
This article announces that AWS Fargate now supports configurable ephemeral storage up to 175 GiB per pod, enabling new workload types on the serverless compute platform.
- Ephemeral storage now configurable up to 175 GiB per EKS Fargate pod
- Default 20 GiB ephemeral storage included; pay only for additional storage
- Enables machine learning inference, media transcoding, ETL, and data processing workloads
- AWS Fargate reserves 10% of storage plus 5 GiB for system components
- Storage limits ignored on Fargate; pods won't be evicted for exceeding limits
- Each pod runs on dedicated virtual machine with isolated storage, CPU, memory
- Ephemeral storage usage visible via kubectl and node summary API
This update expands AWS Fargate's capabilities for data-intensive workloads by providing significantly more ephemeral storage while maintaining serverless simplicity.
