Announcing the ability to release inactive data from Amazon FSx for Lustre file systems

News

This article announces a new feature for Amazon FSx for Lustre that enables users to release inactive data from file systems synchronized with Amazon S3.

  • Release inactive data from FSx for Lustre files already exported to S3
  • Choose minimum inactivity duration before releasing file data
  • Specify directory paths to limit which data gets released
  • File metadata remains on file system after data release
  • Released data automatically reloads from S3 when accessed
  • Schedule releases using Amazon EventBridge for regular intervals
  • Available on Lustre version 2.12 in all AWS Regions

This feature helps optimize storage costs by freeing capacity while maintaining transparent access to S3-backed data through the high-performance file system.
