This article announces that Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports automatic time zone file upgrades for single-tenant instances on multitenant container database (CDB) architecture.

  • Automates daylight savings time (DST) time zone file version upgrades
  • Eliminates need to manually provision new instances and migrate data
  • Supports TIMESTAMP WITH TIME ZONE data types
  • Enable via TIMEZONE_FILE_AUTOUPGRADE option in RDS Console or AWS CLI
  • Available for new or existing DB instances

This feature simplifies time zone management for Oracle databases by automating upgrades to the latest time zone definitions without manual intervention.
