Introducing Intra-VPC Communication Across Multiple Outposts with Direct VPC Routing
Blog
This article announces support for intra-VPC communication across multiple AWS Outposts racks using direct VPC routing, enabling instance-to-instance communication within the same VPC across different Outposts.
- Multiple Outposts can now communicate within same VPC using local gateways
- Enables more specific routes than VPC CIDR range targeting local gateways
- Eliminates need for multiple VPCs or Customer-owned IP mode workarounds
- Traffic routes through on-premises network infrastructure between Outposts
- Supports high availability and Multi-AZ-like architectures on-premises
- Reduces latency between application components on different Outposts
- Available in all AWS Regions where Outposts rack is available
This feature simplifies multi-Outpost deployments by allowing unified VPC architecture with direct inter-Outpost communication via local gateways.
