AWS Lambda functions now scale up to 12X faster

News

This article announces an improvement to AWS Lambda functions, allowing them to scale up 12 times faster than before. Now, each Lambda function can scale up to 1,000 concurrent executions every 10 seconds, up to the account's concurrency limit.

Specifically, the article covers:

  • Workloads that benefit from faster scaling, such as SLA-bound data processing or web applications with fluctuating traffic
  • Previously, Lambda scaling was account-level, limited to 3,000 concurrent executions in the first minute and 500 per minute thereafter
  • The new scaling experience enables more rapid, granular scaling of individual Lambda functions
  • It is available in all commercial AWS Regions and enabled by default for synchronously invoked functions, at no additional cost
  • Reserved Concurrency can be used to set a limit on a function's scalability
  • Further details are provided in the Lambda scaling behavior documentation and the launch blog
