AWS Lambda supports Kafka event sources in the Israel (Tel Aviv) Region

Regional Expansion

This article announces that AWS Lambda now supports Kafka event sources in the Israel (Tel Aviv) Region. This allows customers to build serverless applications that process streaming data from Kafka event sources in this region.

Specifically, the article covers:

  • Lambda launched support for Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (MSK) and self-managed Apache Kafka as event sources in 2020
  • This feature enables customers to build serverless applications triggered by Apache Kafka topics using Amazon MSK or self-managed Kafka clusters
  • Messages are processed in batches and Lambda is invoked when the batch size is reached or payload size reaches 6MB
  • No additional charge for this feature, customers pay for Lambda function invocations triggered by the event source mapping
