ElastiCache encryption at rest is now available in the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions

This article announces the availability of encryption at rest for Amazon ElastiCache for Redis in the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions. Encryption at rest was already available in all commercial AWS regions, but now it is also supported in the GovCloud regions.

Specifically, the article covers:

  • Customers can enable encryption at rest using either the default (service managed) encryption keys or their own customer managed AWS KMS keys
  • When encryption at rest is enabled, Amazon ElastiCache for Redis encrypts all data on disk, including service backups stored in Amazon S3
  • Encryption at rest using the default keys is provided at no additional charge, while using customer managed AWS KMS keys incurs additional charges
