Amazon QuickSight now supports GetClusterCredentialswithIAM for Redshift Data Sources

News

Amazon QuickSight now supports the ability to connect to Redshift data sources using an IAM role through the GetClusterCredentialswithIAM API. This feature enhances the previously launched Redshift RunasRole capability by making the Database user/Database Group parameters optional and tying the temporary user identity to the IAM credentials.

Specifically, the article covers:

  • The new feature enables cross-account use cases by supporting LakeFormation-Managed Redshift Data Share
  • Administrators can assign an IAM role to a Redshift data source to apply fine-grained permissions when running queries
  • The feature is available in multiple AWS regions, including GovCloud
  • Guidance is provided on how to configure and use this new capability
