Amazon RDS for MySQL LTS version 8.4 is now generally available

Amazon RDS has announced general availability of MySQL version 8.4, the first Long-Term Support (LTS) release from the MySQL community. Key highlights include:
- Support for MySQL Community Edition versions 8.0 and 8.4
- Direct upgrades from MySQL 8.0 to 8.4 are supported
- Recommended upgrade method is Amazon RDS Blue/Green deployments
- Default authentication plugin changed to caching_sha2_password
- Automatic histogram updates introduced
- Updated Group Replication plugin
- Replaced OpenSSL with AWS-LC cryptographic library
- Switched default binlog_format to ROW
Notable changes include performance-related parameter updates, removal of non-inclusive terms, and enhanced security and replication features. The release aims to provide a stable, long-term supported version for enterprise MySQL deployments.
