New APIs in Amazon Bedrock to enhance RAG applications, now available

AWS has announced new APIs for Amazon Bedrock Knowledge Bases to enhance Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) applications, with two key features:

  • Support for custom connectors and streaming data ingestion
  • Introduction of reranking models to improve search relevance

Custom connector features include:

  • Add, delete, list, and retrieve documents via direct APIs
  • Efficient data ingestion without full sync requirements
  • Support for streaming and unsupported data sources

Reranking models help by:

  • Prioritizing most relevant content
  • Improving response accuracy
  • Reducing response generation costs

The new capabilities are now available in multiple AWS regions, supporting Amazon Rerank 1.0 and Cohere Rerank 3.5 models.
