Amazon Redshift announces support for two new geospatial H3 Indexing functions

News

Amazon Redshift has expanded its H3 Geospatial Indexing support by introducing two new functions: H3_Center and H3_Boundary.

  • H3_Center returns the centroid of an H3 cell ID, allowing computation of geometric centers for arbitrary areas
  • H3_Boundary returns the boundary of an H3 cell ID
  • These functions improve spatial query performance by pre-indexing location information
  • Now available in all AWS regions where Amazon Redshift is supported

These new functions enhance Amazon Redshift's spatial analytics capabilities, providing more advanced geospatial indexing and analysis tools for users.
