AWS and Epic have expanded database sizing capabilities for healthcare deployments, announcing a significant performance increase for Epic's Chronicles Operational Database (ODB).
- New sizing supports 105 million global references per second (GRefs/s)
- Achieved using Amazon EC2 U7ib-6tb.112xlarge instance and EBS io2 Block Express volumes
- Represents a 31% increase in Epic Cloud Platform (ECP) sizing since May 2024
- Powered by 4th Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors with up to 448 vCPUs
- Utilizes AWS Nitro System for improved compute and networking performance
- Provides sub-millisecond latency and enhanced storage performance
The update enables larger and more performant healthcare system deployments on AWS, with improved infrastructure resilience across multiple Availability Zones.
