Use AWS service reference information to automate policy management workflows

Security Blog

AWS has introduced service reference information in JSON format to help users automate policy management workflows, addressing the challenge of keeping up with AWS's growing list of services and actions.

  • Provides machine-readable files with available actions across AWS services
  • Allows retrieval of service lists and detailed service permissions via specific URLs
  • Enables building custom tools for policy authoring and management
  • Offers two sample tools in GitHub:
    • SCP pre-processor for optimizing service control policies
    • Notification tool for tracking new or removed IAM actions

This feature simplifies policy management by providing structured, up-to-date information about AWS service actions, resources, and condition keys.
