Networking & Content Delivery Blog

AWS has announced performance and metrics enhancements for AWS Transit Gateway and AWS Cloud WAN in late 2024, focusing on four key improvements:

  • Path MTU Discovery (PMTUD) support for IPv4 and IPv6 protocols
  • Improved Appliance Mode Routing with Availability Zone (AZ) awareness
  • Per-AZ Amazon CloudWatch Metrics for better network visibility
  • AWS Cloud WAN Service Insertion Operational Enhancement

Key benefits include:

  • Preventing packet loss by dynamically adjusting packet sizes
  • More efficient routing by keeping traffic within the same AZ
  • Granular network performance monitoring
  • Simplified network function group expansion across regions

These enhancements aim to improve network performance, visibility, and operational efficiency for AWS customers.
