Maximizing seismic insights: how Petrobras uses S-Cube’s cloud native XWI solution built on AWS Graviton

Industries Blog

This article discusses how Petrobras and S-Cube are using AWS cloud technologies to enhance seismic processing and Full Waveform Inversion (FWI) workflows for subsurface imaging:

  • Utilized AWS Graviton processors on EC2 Spot instances for high-performance computing
  • Processed 3.3 TB of seismic data covering a 700 km² area using 163-325 Spot Instances
  • Developed a cloud-native solution with fault-tolerant, TCP-based communication
  • Used Amazon S3 for data storage, replacing traditional parallel file systems
  • Completed each job iteration in approximately 72 minutes
  • Reduced computational costs through pay-as-you-go AWS model

The solution demonstrated significant improvements in seismic imaging efficiency and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional on-premises methods.
