AWS Tools for PowerShell V5 now Generally Available

AWS has announced the general availability of AWS Tools for PowerShell version 5, a major update with significant improvements and breaking changes.

  • New features include canceling cmdlet execution with CTRL+C, interactive AWS Systems Manager sessions, and expanded auto-iteration for over 1,000 cmdlets
  • Performance improvements from AWS SDK for .NET V4 upgrade
  • Enhanced security in handling and logging sensitive information
  • Breaking changes require script updates, including:
    • Dropping support for older Windows Server and .NET Framework versions
    • Changes in credential resolution and auto-iteration behavior
    • Modifications to S3 object handling
  • V4 will be supported for six months before entering maintenance mode

AWS recommends users review the migration guide, update scripts, and transition to V5 as soon as possible.
