Amazon Redshift Python user-defined functions will reach end of support after June 30, 2026

AWS is announcing the end of support for Python User-Defined Functions (UDFs) in Amazon Redshift, recommending migration to Lambda UDFs by June 30, 2026.
- October 30, 2025: Creation of new Python UDFs will no longer be supported
- June 30, 2026: Execution of existing Python UDFs will be suspended
- Lambda UDFs offer enhanced integration, multiple Python runtimes, independent scaling, and improved security
- Migration can be simplified using Amazon Q Developer's AI-powered code transformation
- Customers should test and validate Lambda UDFs before full replacement
