AWS Lambda announces low latency processing for Kafka events

News

AWS Lambda has introduced low-latency event processing for Amazon Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (MSK) and self-managed Kafka event sources.

  • Enables sub-100ms processing of Kafka events by setting MaximumBatchingWindowInSeconds to 0
  • Supports mission-critical applications with real-time latency requirements
  • Use cases include financial services, e-commerce, and gaming platforms
  • Allows function invocation immediately after previous invocation completes
  • Potentially provides average 50ms end-to-end latencies
  • Generally available in most AWS Commercial Regions

This feature enables customers to build latency-sensitive Kafka applications with efficient event processing on AWS Lambda.
