Navigating to net zero: How Cargill unlocks carbon-neutral transport on AWS

Supply Chain & Logistics Blog

Cargill Ocean Transportation partnered with AWS to develop a comprehensive data platform to help achieve their net-zero emissions goal by 2050, focusing on carbon emissions tracking and reduction in maritime shipping.

  • Built the "OT DataCloud" to connect and integrate data from multiple sources
  • Developed Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) application to classify ship efficiency
  • Created Energy Efficiency Operating Indicator (EEOI) application, reducing manual reporting time from two weeks to daily automated reports
  • Utilized AWS services like S3, Glue, Lambda, and SageMaker for data processing and AI/ML capabilities
  • Implemented intelligent document processing to optimize vessel port time and reduce carbon footprint

The solution enables Cargill to track emissions, comply with regulations, and provide customers with transparent sustainability data, supporting their goal of achieving zero-carbon shipping by 2050.
