Kansas State University is modernizing its geospatial research infrastructure by developing Geocat, a cloud-native ArcGIS Enterprise platform built on AWS to support advanced research across multiple disciplines.

  • Addresses limitations of legacy on-premises infrastructure for handling large-scale GIS workflows
  • Developed in collaboration with AWS and ROK Technologies
  • Supports high-performance geospatial workflows including 3D visualization, remote sensing, and geospatial AI
  • Utilizes AWS services like Amazon S3, Amazon AppStream 2.0, and Amazon WorkSpaces
  • Includes ArcGIS Portal, ArcGIS Server, and centralized data storage

The platform aims to provide scalable, accessible geospatial research capabilities for students, faculty, and extension professionals, supporting K-State's land-grant mission and advancing digital research infrastructure.
