Amazon EMR on EC2 Adds Apache Spark native FGAC and AWS Glue Data Catalog Views Support

Amazon EMR on EC2 has introduced two new features to enhance data governance and security:

  • Apache Spark native fine-grained access control (FGAC) via AWS Lake Formation
  • Support for AWS Glue Data Catalog views

Key capabilities include:

  • Granular access policy definition and consistent application across EMR clusters
  • Simplified access management using Lake Formation grant and revoke statements
  • Multi-engine SQL views across regions, accounts, and organizations
  • Comprehensive access control through Lake Formation permissions
  • Automatic logging of access requests in AWS CloudTrail

These features are available in Amazon EMR release 7.10 across all supported regions, providing improved data security and governance for analytics environments.
