AWS has announced the availability of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) for Amazon Linux 2023, providing robust security hardening configurations for U.S. Department of Defense and Federal customers.

  • STIG guidelines align with NIST 800-53 security standards
  • Two primary implementation methods are available:
  • EC2 Image Builder: Automates creation of STIG-compliant Linux images
  • AWS Systems Manager: Allows configuration of existing EC2 instances
  • Supports Category I, II, and III security findings
  • Reduces operational overhead for security compliance

This release demonstrates Amazon Linux's commitment to providing robust security tools for highly regulated environments, enabling customers to implement stringent government-validated security configurations.
