Amazon Redshift announces the general availability of Multidimensional Data Layouts
News
Amazon Redshift has announced the general availability of Multidimensional Data Layouts (MDDL), a new data sorting technique to accelerate query performance.
- Dynamically sorts data based on actual query filters
- Can achieve up to 10x better end-to-end query performance
- Automatically constructs a virtual sort key that co-locates rows accessed by similar queries
- Works with tables that have AUTO sort keys
- Provides more expressive sorting compared to existing compound and interleaved sort keys
- Available in all AWS commercial regions where Redshift is present
MDDL improves query performance by skipping data blocks and entire predicate columns during execution, making data retrieval more efficient.
