Enhancing security with WebAuthn redirection in Amazon WorkSpaces

Desktop & Application Streaming Blog

Amazon WorkSpaces has introduced WebAuthn redirection, a new security feature that enables users to authenticate with local security keys and biometric devices when using virtual desktop applications.

  • WebAuthn allows passwordless authentication using hardware security keys and biometrics
  • Two implementation options: Standard WebAuthn (Windows/Linux) and Enhanced WebAuthn (Windows)
  • Works with FIDO2-compliant devices like YubiKeys and Windows Hello
  • No USB redirection or additional hardware required
  • Available in all AWS Regions with WorkSpaces at no extra cost

The feature bridges authentication across physical and virtual environments, enhancing security while maintaining user productivity and experience.
