This article announces regional availability mode for AWS NAT Gateways, enabling automatic scaling across availability zones without manual management.
- Single NAT Gateway automatically expands/contracts across AZs based on workload presence
- No public subnet required to host regional NAT Gateway
- Eliminates need to manually create/delete NAT Gateways when workloads change
- Route table editing no longer necessary for AZ expansion
- Supports AWS-provided or customer-owned IP addresses
- Available in all commercial AWS Regions except GovCloud and China
Regional NAT Gateway mode simplifies network management by automating availability zone scaling while maintaining high availability.
