Amazon SageMaker HyperPod now supports custom Kubernetes labels and taints

News

This article announces that Amazon SageMaker HyperPod now supports custom Kubernetes labels and taints for improved pod scheduling control.

  • Configure labels and taints at instance group level via CreateCluster and UpdateCluster APIs
  • Specify up to 50 labels and 50 taints per instance group
  • Labels enable resource organization and pod targeting through node selectors
  • Taints repel pods without matching tolerations to protect specialized nodes
  • Automatically applies and maintains configurations across node lifecycle operations
  • Prevents GPU resources from being consumed by non-AI workloads
  • Eliminates manual kubectl reapplication after node replacement or scaling
  • Available in all AWS Regions where SageMaker HyperPod is available

This feature reduces operational overhead by automating Kubernetes scheduling policy management across the entire node lifecycle.
