This article announces that Amazon RDS and Aurora now support resource tagging for automated backups, enabling better access control and cost tracking.

  • Tag automated backups separately from parent DB instances or clusters
  • Use tags with IAM policies for Attribute-Based Access Control (ABAC)
  • Control permissions for describing, deleting, or restoring backups
  • Categorize and track backup costs by application, project, or department
  • Available in all AWS Regions including GovCloud (US)

This feature simplifies backup management and cost allocation for RDS and Aurora users across all regions.
