This article announces that Amazon ECS now supports custom container stop signals for Linux tasks on AWS Fargate, enabling graceful shutdown aligned with container preferences.
- ECS reads STOPSIGNAL from OCI container images during task termination
- Containers can use SIGQUIT, SIGINT, or other signals instead of default SIGTERM
- Improves graceful shutdown behavior for containers with specific termination requirements
- Defaults to SIGTERM if no STOPSIGNAL is configured in the image
- Available in all AWS Regions immediately
This enhancement allows containers to terminate gracefully using their configured stop signals, improving application shutdown behavior on Fargate.
