Achieving distinct IP identity with AWS for enhanced control and connectivity

Industries Blog

This article explains how organizations can establish distinct IP identity on AWS using Bring Your Own IP (BYOIP) and Bring Your Own ASN (BYOASN) to avoid broad filtering policies applied to shared cloud IP spaces.

  • IP perception affects service reachability; third parties filter shared cloud IPs conservatively
  • Telecom providers, SaaS platforms, and enterprises benefit from distinct IP identity
  • BYOIP allows organizations to use their own public IPv4 addresses exclusively on AWS
  • BYOASN enables traffic to be advertised under organization's ASN, not AWS ASN
  • Detailed walkthrough covers eight steps: domain verification, IPAM creation, CIDR provisioning, ASN provisioning, pool sharing, EIP allocation, EC2 association, and verification
  • Prerequisites include public ASN, IPv4 CIDR, private key, RIR ownership verification, and RPKI configuration
  • Verification uses public Looking Glass tools to confirm prefix advertisement with own ASN

Organizations can decouple from AWS shared infrastructure and establish clear ownership of their IP space, enabling better control over traffic treatment and reducing unintended filtering by external services.
