Improve application resiliency with larger and faster Amazon EBS gp3 volumes

Storage Blog

This article announces significant capacity and performance increases for Amazon EBS gp3 volumes, enabling applications to scale without complex multi-volume striping architectures.

  • gp3 volumes now support 64 TiB capacity (4x increase from 16 TiB)
  • Maximum IOPS increased 5x to 80,000 from 16,000
  • Maximum throughput doubled to 2 GiB/s from 1 GiB/s
  • Maintains 99.9% durability across all volume sizes
  • Reduces need for RAID-0 striping, improving effective durability and simplifying operations
  • Pricing remains unchanged; no interface changes required
  • Existing volumes can be modified to use new limits non-disruptively

These enhancements allow customers to build simpler, more resilient storage architectures that scale with application growth while maintaining cost efficiency and reducing operational complexity.
