Amazon Redshift introduces new array functions for semi-structured data processing

This article announces nine new array functions for Amazon Redshift to process semi-structured data stored in the SUPER data type.
- New functions: ARRAY_CONTAINS, ARRAY_DISTINCT, ARRAY_EXCEPT, ARRAY_INTERSECTION, ARRAY_POSITION, ARRAY_POSITIONS, ARRAY_SORT, ARRAY_UNION, ARRAYS_OVERLAP
- Enable searching, comparing, sorting, and transforming arrays directly in SQL queries
- Eliminate need for complex custom PartiQL SQL logic
- Simplify data transformations and reduce query complexity
- Ideal for nested data structures, event processing, and analytics workflows
- Available in all AWS Regions including GovCloud
These new array functions streamline semi-structured data processing in Redshift by providing native SQL operations for complex array manipulations.
