This article announces that Amazon S3 now supports five additional checksum algorithms, bringing the total to ten supported algorithms for data integrity verification.

  • New algorithms: MD5, XXHash3, XXHash64, XXHash128, and SHA-512
  • S3 validates and stores checksums alongside objects automatically
  • Supports checksum validation on upload and download
  • Multipart uploads use part-level checksums with composite calculation
  • Default CRC64NVME checksum applied if none provided
  • Works with S3 Replication and S3 Inventory for audit trails
  • S3 Batch Operations can calculate checksums for existing objects at scale
  • Available at no additional cost across 37 AWS Regions
