This article announces index-level encryption support in Amazon OpenSearch Service, enabling per-index data encryption using AWS KMS customer managed keys.

  • Encrypt data at rest on a per-index basis with customer managed KMS keys
  • Use different keys for different indexes on the same domain
  • Enables granular, tenant-specific encryption policies
  • Builds on existing domain-level encryption capability
  • Available at no additional cost for OpenSearch 3.3 or later
