This article announces EFA-only network interface support for Amazon SageMaker HyperPod clusters, enabling optimized large-scale AI/ML training deployments.

  • EFA-only interfaces dedicate network adapters exclusively to inter-node communication without IP networking overhead
  • Eliminates IP address consumption from ENA devices on non-IP interfaces, preventing VPC IP exhaustion
  • Allows larger clusters within same subnets by maximizing EFA interfaces for low-latency communication
  • Configure via ClusterNetworkInterface in CreateCluster/UpdateCluster API with "efa-only" parameter
