AWS News Blog

AWS WAF adds AI traffic monetization capability, allowing content owners to charge AI bots and agents for accessing protected web content at the network edge.

  • Set per-request pricing by content path, bot category, or verification tier without modifying origin infrastructure
  • Classifies over 650 AI bot types with verified and unverified tiers based on cryptographic signatures and IP reputation
  • Collect payments in stablecoins (USDC) to preferred wallets on blockchain networks like Base and Solana
  • Monitor revenue, bot activity, and traffic patterns from unified dashboard with real-time analytics
  • Test mode available on testnets before switching to production with real payments
  • Available now for CloudFront customers at no additional charge beyond standard AWS WAF pricing

Addresses the challenge of AI bots consuming content without generating referral traffic or offsetting infrastructure costs for publishers.
