AWS CodeBuild now supports Amazon Linux 2023 for on-demand build hosts through a new host kernel selection setting.
- Choose between Amazon Linux 2 (kernel 4) or Amazon Linux 2023 (kernel 6) for build hosts
- Amazon Linux 2023 includes updated Linux kernel, glibc, and package improvements
- Validate AL2023 on non-production projects while keeping production on current kernel
- Available in all AWS Regions except GovCloud (US) and China, which support only AL2023
- Configure via host kernel setting in create-project command
This launch enables gradual migration to Amazon Linux 2023 while maintaining stability for existing production builds.
