AWS Lambda announces self-managed code storage

AWS Lambda now supports self-managed Amazon S3 buckets for code storage, enabling direct code references without intermediate copies.
- Reference source code directly from your own S3 buckets without Lambda creating copies
- Eliminates 75GB code storage limit per Region; store as much as your bucket allows
- Reduces function activation time by removing the copy step during creation and updates
- Default Lambda-managed storage limit increased from 75GB to 300GB per Region
- No additional Lambda charges; pay only for standard S3 storage and cross-Region transfers
- Set S3ObjectStorageMode parameter to REFERENCE when creating or updating functions and layers
- Available in all commercial AWS Regions
Self-managed code storage eliminates deployment constraints for customers with large function portfolios and layers.
