Accelerating geospatial work with Kiro: One AI interface for the geo stack

Public Sector Blog

This article introduces the Geospatial Power Pack, a Kiro power package that unifies fragmented geospatial tools, data sources, and compute into a single AI-assisted workspace.

  • Addresses dual fragmentation problem: scattered data catalogs and fragmented processing/compute backends requiring coordination of multiple APIs and tools
  • Provides 19 modular MCP servers exposing 46 tools across data connectors, processing/compute, and GeoAI pillars
  • Enables credential-free workflows using open datasets from Registry of Open Data on AWS including Sentinel-2 imagery and LGND Clay v1.5 embeddings
  • Orchestrates discovery, processing, and analysis in pillar order with graceful degradation when sources fail
  • Includes guided workflows, domain skills, and steering guides for end-to-end pipelines like COG conversion and zonal statistics
  • Supports distributed compute across AWS Batch, Fargate, EMR, and SageMaker through aws-geo-compute peer power
  • Reads cloud-optimized formats (COG, GeoParquet, Zarr, COPC) directly without downloading whole files

The Geospatial Power Pack reduces integration overhead for geospatial practitioners by consolidating tool fragmentation into one interface, enabling faster analysis from discovery to processing to results.
