Enforcing data residency with single-Region Claude Code on Amazon Bedrock

Machine Learning Blog

This article explains how to enforce single-Region data residency for Claude Code on Amazon Bedrock, addressing compliance requirements where prompts and completions must stay within a specific AWS Region.

  • Two paths available: Mantle endpoint (7 Regions) or classic Bedrock with application inference profiles (London only)
  • Path 1 (Mantle): Set environment variables and IAM Region condition; no additional AWS resources needed
  • Path 2 (Classic Bedrock): Create application inference profiles pointing to in-Region foundation models plus IAM Region condition
  • IAM policies enforce Region restrictions using aws:RequestedRegion condition to reject out-of-Region calls
  • Verify compliance via CloudTrail: InvokeModel events for classic Bedrock, CreateInference events for Mantle
  • Choose path based on target Region: Mantle for Ireland, Stockholm, Tokyo, Melbourne, or US regions; classic Bedrock for London

Single-Region data residency for Claude Code requires minimal setup: environment configuration, optional inference profile creation, and IAM Region-scoped policies with CloudTrail verification.
