Runtime instances: persistent compute for production AI agents on Amazon Bedrock AgentCore

AWS announces runtime instances, a new compute option in Amazon Bedrock AgentCore that provides persistent, managed infrastructure for complex AI agent workloads.

  • AWS-managed EC2 infrastructure supporting multiple agents per runtime with shared sessions persisting up to 14 days
  • GPU acceleration for compute-intensive tasks and session stop/restart to optimize costs
  • Agents can collaborate on the same host via shared file systems without API calls between them
  • Supports containerized deployments and integrates with AgentCore APIs, identity controls, and observability
  • Complements runtime microVMs for hybrid orchestration patterns with lightweight coordinators and specialized workers
  • Available in US East, US West, Asia Pacific, and Europe regions with standard EC2 pricing plus management fee

Runtime instances eliminate the need for manual infrastructure management while enabling multi-day agent workflows, GPU access, and seamless multi-agent coordination through shared persistent storage.
