Accelerate Cloud Development with Docker Desktop on Amazon WorkSpaces

Desktop & Application Streaming Blog

This article announces that Amazon WorkSpaces Personal now supports nested virtualization and Docker Offload, enabling full container development workflows on cloud desktops.

  • Docker Desktop with nested virtualization available on Power, PowerPro, and General Purpose bundles for native performance
  • Docker Offload runs containers on remote VMs for Standard and Performance bundles, keeping desktops light and portable
  • Supports full Docker ecosystem: Docker Compose, Kubernetes, WSL2, Android emulators, and Docker-in-Docker
  • Enables diverse developer workflows: full-stack, platform engineering, mobile development, data/ML, and contractors
  • Eliminates previous gap where cloud desktops couldn't provide hypervisor needed for Docker Desktop

Developers can now choose container strategies matching their needs—local performance or remote portability—within a managed, secure cloud workstation.
