Amazon Redshift now supports Apache Iceberg v3 tables

Amazon Redshift now supports reading from and writing to Apache Iceberg v3 tables, introducing new features for data lake operations.

  • Default column values simplify schema evolution when adding columns to existing tables
  • Row lineage tracks row identity and last-updated sequence numbers for incremental pipelines and CDC workflows
  • Deletion vectors replace positional delete files with compressed bitmaps for faster updates and deletes
  • Create v3 tables with CREATE TABLE or upgrade existing v2 tables with ALTER TABLE commands
  • Supported on Graviton-based provisioned and serverless Redshift clusters

These Iceberg v3 features enable more efficient data management and compliance-driven record removal in Amazon Redshift.
