AWS Lambda now supports SnapStart for container image functions, reducing startup times from several seconds to sub-second latency.
- SnapStart takes snapshots of initialized execution environments during deployment and resumes from cache on invocation
- Enables faster startup for latency-sensitive workloads like ML inference and interactive APIs
- Previously limited to managed runtimes; now available for container images up to 10 GB
- Available in all commercial AWS Regions except Asia Pacific (New Zealand) and Asia Pacific (Taipei)
- Activate via AWS Lambda API, Console, CLI, CloudFormation, SAM, SDK, or CDK
SnapStart for container images eliminates complex performance optimizations while improving responsiveness for containerized Lambda functions.
